This week, Vijay Tewari introduces the new Cloud Solution track of Building Clouds. Vijay is the Principal Group Program Manager at Microsoft responsible for private cloud solutions. You may remember Vijay from his previous role where he was responsible for overseeing System Center Virtual Machine Manager.
Welcome to the Cloud Solutions track of the Building Clouds blog! I am Vijay Tewari, Principal Group Program Manager at Microsoft responsible for private cloud solutions. Our team is responsible for private cloud solutions including Cloud Platform System and Private Cloud Fast Track Program.
We will use this blog to keep you updated on new developments in CPS and Fast Track, and to bring you in-depth looks to the technology and its capabilities.
Microsoft is committed to enabling customers to build on-premises clouds, and to making the insights learned running Azure available on-premises. Through this journey, it became apparent to us that we needed not just to build the basic infrastructure blocks (Windows Server, System Center, Windows Azure Pack), but also to invest engineering effort to simplify the process of building clouds.
Integrated and validated cloud solutions like CPS help IT organization become more agile and cost-effective. IDC recently published a study that found that integrated solution deliver savings through faster deployment of infrastructure and applications, less unplanned downtime, and better IT staff productivity.
Microsoft now has an engineering team devoted to bringing cloud solutions to market. The team is responsible for both solutions that Microsoft designs, like CPS, and ones that our partners design and validate through the Private Cloud Fast Track program.
Fast Track is a joint effort between Microsoft and its hardware partners to deliver validated, pre-configured solutions that reduce the complexity and risk of implementing a private cloud based on Hyper-V and Microsoft System Center. The Fast Track program has been in the market for several years now, and we have been delighted by the interest shown by partners and customers. We have ten partners (including all of the major OEMs) offering Fast Track solutions based on the current Windows Server and System Center versions, and more are coming.
The same engineering team is responsible for both CPS and the Fast Track program because we want to ensure that the work that we do on CPS benefits all partners who build Microsoft cloud solutions. We are all passionate about building the most robust and efficient cloud solutions.
Are you going to Ignite? If you are, please come see the CPS solution and meet the team at the Microsoft booth and at our CPS sessions. If you are not, please check back on this blog on May 4th for more news from us!
